What a darling book! I’m fascinated to learn that the author has been an elementary teacher for learning disabled children. She knows her stuff for sure. This is full of terrific rhyming, an engaging story and loads and loads of onomatopoeic language which will provide so much fun for young listeners/readers. It simply begs to be read aloud!

Mamas and Papas are down at the construction site with their little ones – who are learning to do all the things their parents do. Busily digging, scooping, making from the morning until it’s time for snuggles in the evening.

Count along with these busy vehicles and enjoy the ride!

I will definitely look out for others by this author – who has some twenty books to her credit.

Highly recommended for the little guys from 0-5 J.

Since the first appearance of the ‘Crayons’ they have been very firm favourites with readers of all ages but of course, especially little people.

This delightful board book is a great introduction to these colourful personalities particularly for the tiniest of book-lovers.

Duncan has lost his crayons! The reader is invited to help find them and count all ten. Each page of course features its own colour with a typically quirky comment from the featured crayon – and naturally an illustration which highlights its character.

Little ones will love this and counting books are always so popular! This one does double duty helping toddlers and upwards learn both numbers and colours.

Highly recommended as a terrific addition to a Santa sack for a special little person in your life.

The most extraordinary thing about this book – which is great! – is that when I first read it, my immediate reaction was that it was almost identical in its text as one I created for a maths resource when I was at uni doing my teacher’s degree!

Mine was pretty dodgy with cut out ‘lift the flaps’ of dinosaur wrapping paper images to hide the subtraction algorithm but it was quite astonishing how closely Paul Stickland’s writing and mine coincided! Perhaps I have missed my calling after all!

All that aside, this a fun book in the Dinosaur Roar series, which are not only fun reads but teaching tools as well. A story of diminishing numbers from 10 to 1 accompanied by wonderfully colourful illustrations of extremely expressive dinosaurs which Small and I very much enjoyed last night.

If you are looking for some new maths/literature resources for next year, this might well be a good choice for your Preps.

Check out Paul Stickland’s website and the Dinosaurs Roar website.

I have been waiting till Picture Book month to post the review for this wonderful new counting book. It has already established itself as a favourite on our shelves for bedtime. Explore a lush tropical setting filled with vivid colours and familiar Australian birds and animals, while practising simple counting. From the gorgeous endpapers to the simple text, from the stunning artwork to the classy design, this is a real treasure.

Bronwyn Houston lives in Broome and is descended from the Nyiyaparil and Yindijibarndi people of the Pilbara region. She has previously collaborated on three other books but this is her first entirely solo effort – and one would truly hope not the last! Bronwyn draws on her environment for inspiration and that has truly transferred into this ‘richly textured’ new book.

From toddlers and up this is not ‘just another counting book’ but a feast for the eyes of little animal lovers everywhere.

Small has chosen her favourite page to share with you.
